Bad Summer Camp with The Bad Academy

The Bad Academy and Local Tourist LTD hosted their first ever summer camp for women and gender-non-conforming people called Bad Summer Camp. Hosted at the revitalized The Stonewater Motel on The Sunshine Coast, the weekend was filled with time in the circuit spa, laughing around the campfire, along with yoga with Laura Darcy, and a Sound Bath from Raintree Lane.

The weekend was made possible with support from Modo Carsharing, Stanley Park Brewing, La Taqueria, The Strait and Narrow, Nonny, and Hippie Snacks to name a few.

The weekend also included a trip up to Ruby Lake, a weaving class from Red Cedar Woman, and was wrapped up with a farm table lunch at Shady Hazel Farm.

The Bad Academy and Local Tourist LTD hosted their first ever summer camp for women and gender-non-conforming people. Hosted at the revitalized The Stonewater Motel on The Sunshine Coast (complete with circuit spa), the weekend wrapped up with a special lunch at Shady Hazel Farm. The menu highlighted local and fresh produce from ‘njuda mussels, poached salmon and a strawberry rhubarb tiramisu. Ian and Sara from Shady Hazel Farm were wonderful, warm and knowledgeable hosts – be sure to check out their Longtable Series!

In The Spring

These vignettes were inspired by playing with darker backgrounds to capture the inspiration of Dutch still life paintings. In using styling techniques to bring balance and composition to the photos, the hope was to bring a “moodier” styled photo into editorial-based photography. The setups used seasonal vegetables, peonies, pottery from Janaki Larsen, and items from Tracey Ayton’s homeline to capture photos that feel comforting and refined at the same time.

The Stitchery Studio

The Stitchery Studio is a sewing studio located in Port Moody, British Columbia. The Stitchery offers a wide range of materials and classes for everyone interested in the fabric arts. The shop sells the latest fabric designs, provides a friendly learning environment and hands-on classes. The Stitchery holds onto the philosophy that anyone can learn and that a cup of tea is the perfect accompaniment.

Celebrating a new store space, and a dedicated class space – new photographs were taken to showcase the growing range of products for sewing enthusiasts young and old.

Natahsha Priya was hired to photograph for social media content creation, website material to promote classes, and product photography. The approach for these sessions was to keep it light, playful, and colourful – providing photography that encourages anyone to pick up this delightful hobby.

Winter Cocktails with Sons of Vancouver

Winter is for cozy sweaters and good cocktails, and Sons of Vancouver delivers on their new winter menu. Bar manager, Ryan, developed a beautiful line of drinks that are well rounded and diverse. For styling, the art direction was to opt for something clean, classic, and cozy while staying away from the cheesiness of the “winter holiday” (we love good Christmas cheesiness, just not for this).

Each drink is not only beautiful but all feature something from Sons of Vancouver’s current line of distilled products. Each vignette features the cocktail, it’s SOV counterpart and a cozy element that highlights the personality of the drink. From Amaretto to Chili Vodka – there’s a drink for everyone.

A Midsummer Styling

Another workshop hosted by the talented wonderful photographer and stylist Tracey Ayton – this was my 2nd year doing a workshop with Tracey. Her eye for styling, hosting, and creativity is a wonderful experience. This workshop was smaller and intimate – where participants got to experiment and assist with visions we wanted to explore. The vignettes I’ve captured work in colour themes – exploring texture and storytelling as I played with composition and kept darker lighting in some of the styled items.

Sons of Vancouver

Sons of Vancouver is a local craft distillery located in North Vancouver. Known for their Amaretto and their Chili Vodka, SOV continues to push their creativity with new releases including a Whiskey Advent Calendar, along with seasonal drink features. Sons of Vancouver’s latest launches include a Junicopia Gin and a Quadruple Sec.

Working with Sons of Vancouver is always a treat – their love for the local life of North Vancouver, their creative drive, and great staff – always make a stop for a drink a good time.

Photography for Sons of Vancouver has included photos for social media, product launches, limited-edition releases, and collaborations with In Vacanza Pastificio.

At The Beach House

I had the pleasure to photograph alongside Tracey Ayton at her mid-summer styling workshop. Focusing on textures, colours and story-telling, each vignette below works to focus on the elements and composition to communicate. The images belong in sets, focusing on baked goods and warmth, then the refined and neutral colour palettes of home decor, followed by the lush details and colours of sorbets, flowers, and fruits. The farm-to-table charcuterie is designed and made by lovely and talented the Rozella’s.

The Woods Spirit Co.

The team at Woods uses science, local ingredients and curiosity to make refined spirits. These photos capture a collaboration with In Vacanza Pastificio to highlight their drink menu and some pasta features.
